Why Blog? Why Style? Why, Dandy? Why?

Don't you just hate it when life gets in the way?  I hate that I had great plans and gusto to keep to my blogging at least 3 times a week when 2013 started and that THAT momentum has already fizzled out.    March is already halfway through!  Then, I start to think about when I started this blog about a year ago...and then I think about WHY I even do this in the first place.

*above are some of my first outfit shots from 2011, posted on the blog Feb 2012!

I have always been extremely interested in clothes and fashion, and I have always been complimented on my personal style.  I think it all added up and made sense that I should start a personal style blog, but it just took me a while to get around to it.  It wasn't until I was unemployed, and living back at home with my parents for a couple of months last year, that I sat myself down and thelittledandy.blogspot.com was born.

First photos taken by photographer boyfriend Ryan <3.

Blogging was nothing new to me.  It was something I had been doing since my teen years.  Let's see where it all started...probably with AsianAvenue (does this website even still exist?! haha).  Myself and my entire group of friends all had 'pages' on AsianAvenue, and it was essentially a blog on one static page.  I laugh at it now, but this was a pivotal time for me in my blogging nerdy-ness.  Throughout my time on AsianAvenue I learned the basics of HTML.  I carried this with me when I then moved on to Xanga.  Myself and that same group of friends all had Xanga profiles.  Now we were getting in to more standard blogging territory.  During these years I was blogging about everyday life, hanging out with friends, day to day stuff, and uploading photos of daily events and friends.  Essentially, it was 'Facebooking'.  I eventually left the Xanga environment and started a LiveJournal, and I remember being at a more moody phase of my adolescence.  My LiveJournal blog was more of a personal space.  No one knew (and no one knows) that it ever existed.  I have since forgotten my username and password;  it's like it never even happened -- haha.  After all this...I discovered blogspot.  YellowIsPretty was born in my later University years.  Here I just dumped my daily thoughts again.  But there was more thought to my posts now.  I was older, I had real interests, and I cared about stuff.  I posted a lot of music, food, and art related stuff.  And a lot of my own work.  It still exists if you want to take a look at my younger self.

I digress.  But let's keep going.  I left the blogspot environment for a while when I discovered Tumblr during my year abroad in South Korea.  I started a tumblr called Radish Love.  I didn't really pay any mind to it.  It only has a few photo uploads, and reblogs.  Nothing special, really.  And of course, this brings me to my current webspace:  www.thelittledandy.com.

I guess my point is, I've been blogging all of these years just to have a place where I can put things down on paper the web.  A way to keep track of the things that go through my mind.  And it's been interesting to see how this has evolved.  It's living proof that you don't really know what you truly love until you're older and know all that you know.  It took me this long to finally start a blog that was focused solely on personal style.  Something that I love, enjoy, and essentially live and breathe.  SO why do I do it?  Why do I snap photos or care so much about the clothes I wear?  Simply put: because I love it.  It's not just the material elements -- the STUFF.  I love the entire process.  Putting the pieces together and creating a look that is, to me, a masterpiece.  Like building a house, or painting a picture -- I'm putting something together that I think is pretty, and I want to document it.  And that is that.  If others enjoy it -- good.  If it inspires people -- even better.

My first indoor photoshoot between me and my tripod =).  Full post here.

And why do I continue to blog?  I love how I can literally see myself evolve and grow.  Even now, through the process of writing this post and going back through my older posts and photos; I can see growth and change and I love it.  More recently I've been posting here and there about beauty products, and this is because I have personally started to become more and more interested in makeup and beauty.    My blog will continue to grow and evolve in this way, and I hope you all stay with me for the ride!

Exactly one year ago today!  Full post here.

I do what I do because it's what I like to do!

Why did YOU start your blog?

  1. Oh my goodness, I remember Asian Avenue! That was when all the cool kids had their own page, but I didn't even have a computer! And I STILL use my Livejournal, but as an online diary rather than a public blog.
And I haven't blogged much in March either. I blame all this snow.

    Following you on facebook now!

  3. I know exactly how you feel Jo, it is nice seeing all your outfits as something real, documenting yourself and how you change. I hope you get your momentum back, nothing worse than feeling a bit uninspired.
